Gasthaus:
Cookbook and Memories
** BOOK PUBLICATION ANNOUNCED SOON!**
For nearly three decades, the Gasthaus served authentic German food, beer and wine to diners from Louisville, Kentucky and beyond. Founded in 1993 by Annemarie and Michael Greipel, this family-owned restaurant became more than a local favorite — it became a cherished tradition. A place where Schnitzel, Spätzle, and Strudel brought people together to celebrate German food and ambiance.
Nina Greipel — daughter of the founders — invites you into her kitchen with this 190 page, full-color cookbook that keeps the Gasthaus spirit alive. With 80 recipes passed down through generations and many menu favorites along with some family secrets, this book offers a rare opportunity to recreate the soul-warming dishes that made the restaurant unforgettable.
Each recipe is brought to life through Nina’s own cooking and her photography, captured in her home kitchen. From crispy Potato Pancakes and creamy Cucumber Salad to the deep, savory richness of Sauerbraten, you’ll find step-by-step guidance and vivid imagery to inspire your own culinary journey.
Whether you were a longtime guest of the Gasthaus or are simply hungry for authentic German comfort food, this book is both a tribute and a celebration. A way to gather, to cook, and to remember the contribution of German immigrants to Louisville, Kentucky.
Guten Appetit !
